U.S. actor Charlie Sheen questions 9/11 theories

Thursday, March 30, 2006

Charlie Sheen, appearing on cable television news network station CNN on March 24, questioned the credibility of the theory that 19 hijackers caused all of the destruction to the World Trade Center.

Sheen said; “It seems to me like, you know, 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 percent of their targets, that feels like a conspiracy theory… I am an American citizen that loves my country…. People want the truth. They want the truth. And what’s been offered to us resembles nothing of the sort.

In recounting his reaction on the day of the event, Sheen said,”I was up early and we were gonna do a pre-shoot on Spin City, the show I used to do. I was watching the news and the north tower was burning. There was a feeling, it just didn’t look like any commercial jetliner I’ve flown on any time in my life and then when the buildings came down later on that day I said to my brother, ‘Call me insane but did it sorta look like those buildings came down in a controlled demolition?’

Writer Marc Jacobson, of the New York magazine, who co-appeared with Sheen on the same program said in response: “Well, I think he’s doing a reasonable rendition of what other people that believe in this stuff say. And when he says he has his facts straight, I mean, I think the facts are in question. I mean, I think, just because you know what it says on all of these different Web sites doesn’t mean that that’s necessarily the fact. That’s the reason why the United States government, with their endless amounts of resources, let us down by not doing the proper work on the 9/11 Commission. That’s a real problem. Well, you know, but, I mean, it’s just one of those kind of things where you do this work and nobody really cares, but then Charlie Sheen is interested, so then everybody is interested, and that’s fine. You know, obviously, this material needs to be looked at again, because there’s been a lot of problems with the 9/11 Commission report. People feel it’s not adequate. Most of the people who had lost people during that time feel it’s not adequate. And it’s just I think we’re living in a truth vacuum, in a sense, that any time there’s a truth vacuum, these ideas — because people are smart. They put two and two together. Sometimes they get five; sometimes they get 12, but sometimes they get 11, like 9/11, but sometimes they get four. And the thing is that, if you have a situation where the so-called facts are covered up and aggressively covered up, then you’re going to get these conspiracy theories.” One website is claiming that Google had been censoring out any news articles relating to Sheen and 9/11 from it’s search engine.

Regarding the plane that hit the Pentagon, Sheen also has questions: “Just show us how this particular plane pulled off these maneuvers… It is up to us to reveal the truth. It is up to us because we owe it to the families, we owe it to the victims, we owe it to everyone’s life who was drastically altered, horrifically, that day and forever. We owe it to them to uncover what happened.

Some supporters of Sheen’s theories have complained about the lack of mainstream media coverage. They point to CNN’s recent cancellation of Ed Asner’s interview on Showbiz Tonight, where he was expected to support Sheen’s position, as an example of the “media blackout”.

Marina Hyde of The Guardian proposed a theory of her own with regard to Sheen: “Frankly, with dentistry as expensive as yours, you simply can’t afford to let The Man stamp his jackboot down on your face, and so it is that when faced with the inquiry ‘did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone?’, you find yourself thinking: ‘God, I mean… do any of us? Like, he had to have people, you know? At least an agent and a publicist.'”

U.S. Supreme Court upholds health care mandate

Thursday, June 28, 2012

In a decision today, the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the controversial healthcare law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010. The Supreme Court also upheld the individual mandate provision of the law, which would require most U.S. citizens to obtain health insurance by 2014, or pay a monetary penalty.

The Supreme Court ruled on the law 5–4. Chief Justice John Roberts authored the majority opinion. Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor jointed Roberts in the majority, while Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas were in the minority in supporting the repeal of the law.

The Court did, however, strike down a provision of the law which would have expanded Medicaid to make coverage available to anyone with an income less than 138% of the federal poverty line.

President Barack Obama made a public statement from the White House saying that the Supreme Court’s upholding of the law, “reaffirmed a fundamental principle that here in America — in the wealthiest nation on Earth – no illness or accident should lead to any family’s financial ruin.” Obama further added, “Whatever the politics, today’s decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives will be more secure because of this law and the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold it.” Obama closed his statement by saying, “The highest Court in the land has now spoken. We will continue to implement this law. And we’ll work together to improve on it where we can. But what we won’t do — what the country can’t afford to do — is refight the political battles of two years ago, or go back to the way things were.” Adding, “With today’s announcement, it’s time for us to move forward — to implement and, where necessary, improve on this law.”

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney also gave a statement from Washington, D.C. saying, “What the Court did not do on its last day in session, I will do on my first day if elected President of the United States. And that is I will act to repeal Obamacare.” Romney clarified further by saying, “Let’s make clear that we understand what the Court did and did not do. What the Court did today was say that Obamacare does not violate the Constitution. What they did not do was say that Obamacare is good law or that it’s good policy.” Further adding, “Obamacare was bad policy yesterday. It’s bad policy today. Obamacare was bad law yesterday. It’s bad law today.” Romney closed by saying, “Our mission is clear: If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we’re going to have to replace President Obama.”

Eric Cantor, Republican leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced shortly after the ruling that the House would vote on repealing the law on July 11, following the July 4 holiday recess. Cantor said, “The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Obamacare is a crushing blow to patients throughout the country. Obamacare has failed to keep the President’s basic promise of allowing those who like their health care to keep it, while increasing costs and reducing access to quality care for patients.”

In the ruling of National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, John Roberts wrote, “Simply put, Congress may tax and spend. The federal government may enact a tax on an activity that it cannot authorize, forbid or otherwise control.” Meanwhile, Justice Anthony Kennedy authored the dissenting opinion, saying the entire law should have been repealed.

The ruling on the law comes after 26 states challenged the law in oral arguments in front of the Supreme Court in March.

Françoise Demulder, French war photographer, dies age 61

Friday, September 5, 2008

Françoise Demulder, the French war photographer who was the first woman to win the World Press Photo of the Year award has died at the age of 61. The death was caused by a heart attack.

The World Press Photo website says that “Demulder stated at the time that she hated war, but felt compelled to document how it’s always the innocent who suffer, while the powerful get richer and richer.” This is why the organization presented her with the award in 1977.

During her career Demulder reported on wars in Vietnam, Palestine, Cambodia and Lebanon. Her photograph of refugees in Beirut won her the press photography award.

Jonathan Randall, a Washington Post correspondent who knew Demulder, paid his tributes to the photographer. “This was a time when there were beginning to be women correspondents but there were relatively few women photographers,” he said. “When she won the prize it was really quite something. It showed that women were capable of doing what had hitherto been a man’s occupation.”

Christine Albanel, the French culture minister, described Françoise Demulder as “an artist and witness of our time.”

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Effects

Click Here For More Specific Information On:

By Ben Greenwood

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as ‘Myalgic Encephalomyelitis’ (ME), is a form of illness in which the sufferer continuously feels fatigued and is not aided by sleep or rest. Whilst there is no recorded cure for CFS, there are plenty of treatments available to soothe the symptoms. Though the effects will cease over a prolonged period of time, the symptoms associated with CFS can be quite restricting to the victim, and some are listed here:

As with many illnesses, one of the earliest indicators of CFS is nausea; it’s likely that the onset of CFS will inflict flu-like symptoms on the sufferer, quickly followed by a persistent fatigue that will not go away. These are the first signs of the syndrome starting to act and there are a number of additional effects that it can cause, with some people experiencing more than others.

The term ‘myalgic encephalomyelitis’ means pain within the muscles and inflammation of the brain and spinal cord; so another effect of the syndrome is particularly sore muscles throughout the body, rendering the victim unable to do much in terms of daily chores and activities. This lack of social activity can cause psychologically-jarring effects as well, such as depression, irritability, anxiety and panic attacks. The isolation from family and friends means that the victim usually won’t even be able to get out of bed, due to tired and aching muscles and the lack of motivation.

Other short term effects include loss of concentration and in some cases, loss of memory for specific periods. Physical effects can range from migraines to sore throats, the usual symptoms of a bad cold/flu; however the addition of rest does not hinder these symptoms, which can cause further issues with more important organs.

Palpitations, an increased heart-rate and shortness of breath in certain situations is likely to occur in more severe cases and the body is sometimes unable to adapt to sudden changes in temperature or the victim may begin to suffer from allergies which they have not experienced before.

In regards to long-term effects, many symptoms of CFS begin to clear up with the passage of time, but the illness can still take its toll. Though the fatigue may not be as persistent, it’s likely that it will still remain and be activated after strenuous activities and excessive assertion. Away from the physical effects, and in addition to the social problems it can lead to, CFS also affects those who cannot earn a living and have to get by on disability benefits. Younger sufferers may have problems at school and have to be independently educated which can naturally affect their social growth as well as their academic balance.

CFS can affect anyone, at any age, of any background; though the effects and symptoms can vary, the social and personal hindrance it sets on the victim is the most drastic. It is an unusual illness which can work in very unusual patterns and this can really affect a person’s life and work. Though it can’t be cured, it can be softened through treatments, special diets and pain managements, and it doesn’t have to control your life.

Sheer Nightwear A Lingerie Must Have

Click Here For More Specific Information On:

By Adrian Jones

Every girl has her personal version of nightwear. For many women, it consists of very unglamorous large t-shirts and knit pants. We might indulge in something sexier like silk lingerie, but then only wear it on special occasions. But for everyday, we just pull out the cozy cotton stuff and hop into bed.

Why save the sexy ladies nightwear only for special occasions? If the last time you wore sheer nightwear was your wedding night, it’s time for you to update your lingerie closet. Today, there are so many choices in ladies nightwear.

Ladies nightwear can be overwhelming if you have never really considered wearing anything other than that old t-shirt belonging to an ex-boyfriend to bed. But have no fear, you can even find discount lingerie these days that is incredibly comfortable and fun. Head to your nearest brick and mortar or web-based discount store and browse the lingerie sections. Look at all your options from long gowns to sexy babydoll sets. Many women dislike shopping for lingerie; just think of it as an adventure, a simple way to add spice to your life. Think of coming home after a hard day at work, taking a long hot bath and slipping into a piece of silk lingerie. See, you feel more relaxed just thinking about it. So stop procrastinating and start shopping.

Sheer nightwear will always be a top choice among men. Sheer lingerie gives that illusion of being within sight but just out-of-reach. Many types of ladies nightwear incorporate sheer elements into their design. Babydoll lingerie and teddies are especially sexy pieces when they have sheer fabric. Sheer nightwear allows you to have the peek-a-boo effect with the part of your body you wish to highlight. No lover can resist the temptation to reach out and look with their hands as well as their eyes.

Silk lingerie is a sensual choice for special occasions. Many of us had silk for our wedding lingerie. However, as a natural fiber, silk is a great option for everyday ladies’ nightwear as well. Silk lingerie is comfortable and lightweight. Yet silk can also be very warm. You don’t need to wear that bulky flannel nightgown to bed, try a simple silk one instead. You might be pleasantly surprised; your bed partner certainly will be.

Exactly why does any woman need to own sexy nightwear? The obvious answer is for pure and simple sex appeal. When you look sexy, your partner is more likely to act upon that sex appeal. But, you say, what about all the other nights of the week? Many women think the lingerie nightwear is uncomfortable or just for showing off and then removing. That could not be further from the truth. Today’s ladies nightwear comes in every fabric type from cotton to nylon. It also comes in every style desirable. So if you really like babydoll lingerie but hate the feeling of nylon, get a set in comfy cotton. For women who prefer more substantial clothing, try a pair of silk lounge pants with a matching chemise top. You can’t use price as an excuse because discount lingerie is as close as your computer and a quick web search.

As a woman, you know how fabulous you feel on a good hair day. If you have a wonderful piece of ladies sheer nightwear, every night could be a version of a good hair day. You might even get a better night’s sleep.

About the Author: Adrian Jones has been involved in the erotic lingerie uk market for many years. This article outlines the benefits of women wearing silk lingerie as if that needed much explaining!
