There are watches and then there is the TAG Monaco watch. You see if you just want a device for telling the time, then pick something up for $50. The TAG Monaco watch is based on an original design from TAG Heuer in 1969. What made it stand a part from other watches was its iconic square-case, a first in watchmaking. In addition it is powered by the famous Chronomatic Calibre 11, and was the world’s first automatic chronograph. Add to this the fact that it was worn by Steve McQueen in the movie “Le Mans”. From that moment on the watch was assured a place in the list of classic iconic watches. I know that when I hand down my watch to my son in 20 years, it will be as cool and iconic then as it is now.

Ultimately it is this, originally avante garde, design style which made it stand out. Down the years Tag Heuer have only ever made minor tweaks to that original design, and that is why the watch is so enduring. If it is handed down as an heirloom, it will retain it auroa of cool whenever it is adorned. With the TAG Monaco you are buying so much more than just a watch.
The TAG Monaco comes in a number of designs, and is not just for men. Uma Thurman is the face of the woman’s Monaco watch. My sister, at the same time I bought my watch, also bought a Tag Monaco with diamond surrounded edge. This was a complete coincidence as neither of us knew the other one loved the TAG Monaco. Testament to our independent good taste I like to think.

CPSC, ATF warn of dangers of fireworks over US Independence Day celebrations

Last week, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) held a press conference on the National Mall in Washington, DC, warning consumers of the dangers of fireworks, and advising them of safe handling. They were joined by representatives from the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF); Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP); and other national safety agencies. Fireworks are often used to celebrate the United States’ July 4, 1776 independence from Great Britain. The Fourth of July is a time when many US families get together to celebrate, by holding reunions, picnics, barbecues, baseball games and firework displays; however, celebrations often turn sour due to injury or even death, caused by the mishandling of fireworks. In 2009, nearly 19,000 fireworks-related injuries were treated in hospitals, doctors’ offices and clinics all over the country. Around 9,000 of those were to children aged under 18, and 6,000 occurred during the 30 days surrounding Independence Day.
CPSC chairman, Inez Tenenbaum, said that burns and cuts to limbs, the face and head were the most common injuries, and over half of them were due to firecrackers, rockets and sparklers. The agencies were joined at the news conference by Jason Henderson, who was injured in 2007 after building home-made fireworks. He had found instructions online detailing how to build M-80-style fireworks, and after purchasing the chemicals, began assembling them; however, the mixture exploded which resulted in him losing both hands and his right eye, and shrapnel caused multiple lacerations and puncture wounds to his entire body. “Don’t be the show, go and enjoy the show. I want to get people to move away from putting on their own displays and just go and enjoy the free shows. I mean they are free,” Henderson said. “You might as well take advantage of them while they are there. You can spend time with your family instead of being the one to light them and taking that risk.” Henderson also appears in a public-service announcement recently released by the ATF to YouTube, that shows how he has now been fitted with bionic arms.
Agencies recommend attending community fireworks shows held by city or county officials, which are held in a more controlled and professional environment. Additionally, many jurisdictions outlaw either all fireworks, or certain types, such as rockets and firecrackers.
Fireworks increase demands on fire departments and personnel at this time of year, acting U.S. Fire Administrator Glenn Gaines noted. “Four firefighters [have been killed] as a result of illegal fireworks. Calls to EMS [Emergency Medical Services] and fire departments increased as individuals continue to be injured and burned.” The dry weather and heat that many areas are experiencing also elevate the risk of brush and structure fires. The National Fire Protection Association said that over 22,500 fires started from fireworks in 2008.
Consumers who do purchase fireworks are encouraged to follow the following common sense rules: always read and follow directions; always supervise older children and teenagers if they are permitted to use fireworks; never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks, child-friendly sparklers and “party-poppers” are a fun and safe alternative for them; keep animals inside or well away from the fireworks, the noise will often scare them; never light any fireworks inside buildings; light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from houses, dry leaves, and flammable materials; never ignite fireworks in metal or glass containers; light one firework at a time; move away to a safe distance immediately after lighting a firework; never return to a firework that has not ignited properly; never throw fireworks at another person, animal, or property; do not consume alcohol when using fireworks; keep a bucket of water or a hose in close proximity in case of fire, dispose of use fireworks in the bucket of water; buy from reliable dealers; only use legal fireworks; and follow the laws of your jurisdiction.

‘Worst song of all time’ becomes YouTube sensation

Friday, a song by US teen singer Rebecca Black, has gone viral after the song’s music video was uploaded onto video sharing website YouTube. The video has attracted over thirty-five million views since its February 10 upload — and critics think it could be the world’s worst.

Ark Music Factory produced the song and video, using US$2,000 (£1,223, C$1,964, €1,412) from Black’s mother. Friday’s video was shot at Black’s father’s house, with her family and friends as extras. The song beat an alternative track when choosing what to record.
The single is climbing up the iTunes singles chart in the United Kingdom and the United States, gaining a higher position in the US than Canadian singer Justin Bieber.
Despite the song’s popularity, it has received a largely negative reception. According to Newsbeat, critics have cited Friday as being “the worst song of all time.” On YouTube, the video attracted approximately thirty-six thousand ‘likes’ versus over 314,000 ‘dislikes’. The song itself has been ridiculed for its lyrics and criticised for its use of Auto-Tune.
Feeling “like [she was] being cyber-bullied,” Rebecca Black said “[w]hen I first saw all these nasty comments I thought this is all my fault, … this was all because of me.” Black says of “[t]hose hurtful comments”, the worst was “I hope you cut yourself and I hope you get an eating disorder so you look pretty. I hope you cut and die.” Clarence Jey, of Ark Music Factory, offered to take the video off YouTube, but Black declined.
In contrast, British music executive Simon Cowell has expressed a positive interest in Rebecca Black. “I love her and the fact she’s gotten so much publicity,” Cowell commented. “People are so upset about the song, but I think it’s hysterical. I want to meet her. Anyone who can create this much controversy within a week, I want to meet. I love people like that.”
Rebecca Black herself wants to record a duet with Justin Bieber. “I have Bieber fever — I am in love with Justin Bieber,” Black commented. The teenager said it “would be unbelievable and make my life”.
Easy Water Saving During Water Shortage}

As the earth heats up and the ice caps melt, the sea levels start to rise – and what do we have – hose-pipe bans and a situation of “water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink”!

After every long winter, the warm and sunny weather finally arrives – together with hose-pipe bans for many of us. I am lucky to live in an area that has not banned the use of hose-pipes, but because I have a water meter, I am very conscious of how much water I use. I would like to be able to say that my concern is only for the environment, and that does matter to me, but the amount of my bills is a factor that is rather more important at the moment. I already have three water-butts and 2 plastic dustbins for storing rain water, but they do not last very long when you are watering thirsty runner beans. So I have started to save my shower water! Any recycled water is known as “grey water” and can be bath or shower water, washing up water or water from your washing machine. You can use this water in your garden for plants and shrubs, but it is not a good idea to water your fruit and vegetables with this water saving method because of the chemicals used in the various soap products. Also, if you want to save the water from your washing machine, then you need to change to non-bio washing powder or liquid. Washing up water needs to be filtered first – but this can be done by pouring the saved water into a watering can or bucket through an old pair of tights (is there no end to the use of old tights?)
So, my shower water is now collected & saved instead of going straight down the drain. My next door neighbour has been very helpful and put an extension piece onto the pipe that is connected to the outlet from my bath so it now empties into a large container. But he has done it in a way that means I can re-divert back to the drains during the winter. I should add that I live in a bungalow, so this has not been too big a job. The container was given to me and my neighbour had a piece of plumbing pipe in his garage, so there has been no cost involved in saving this water. I am managing to save about 50 litres of water per shower, which is enough to water my shrubs and plants that are not established and whose roots have not yet grown down far enough to obtain enough moisture by themselves. I have never thought it worth watering the lawn, although I realise some people want their grass to be green, not patchy and brown like mine.
If your drains are situated in a place that means you cannot put a container nearby, and you don’t want to carry watering cans through your home, there is a gadget now available from many gardening stores and on the internet. It is called a “drought buster” and is, basically, a length of hose-pipe with a “bulb” near one end and uses atmospheric pressure to draw the water up from the bath and through the hose pipe. A few squeezes of the bulb will start the water flowing and, if the pipe is long enough, you can put the other end out through a window into a container. The hose can be lengthened by using standard hose pipe connectors.
I know you can also purify water with certain plants, so after I’ve watered the garden with the saved water i think I’ll look up my books to see which reeds will clean up the water from my washing machine – then I’ll be able to top up the pond!

Charges against Sally Faulkner and 60 Minutes news crew dropped in Lebanon abduction case

Brisbane mother Sally Faulkner and the crew of Australian current affairs program 60 Minutes are free to leave Lebanon after kidnapping charges against them were today dropped.
Faulkner reportedly made a deal to secure her release, accepting her estranged husband Ali el-Amine’s custody of her two children. This comes after she allegedly hired professionals to abduct the children in Beirut on April 7 while in the care of their Lebanese grandmother.
While personal charges against Australian journalist Tara Brown, her three crew members and Faulkner have been dropped, they still face criminal charges in Lebanon of kidnapping and being members of a criminal gang. If the state chooses to pursue these charges, it could require the accused to return to answer them.
Channel Nine Middle East correspondent Tom Steinfort said that Nine’s lawyers have confirmed bail has been paid for the TV crew, and that they will fly to Australia from Beirut tonight.
The deal between El-Amine and Channel Nine resulted in a significant financial settlement, Fairfax Media reports.
El-Amine is still pursuing charges carrying a maximum 20-year sentence against the crew of Child Abduction Recovery International (CARI) who allegedly conducted the operation.
Adam Whittington of CARI, along with several others involved in the alleged kidnapping, remained in custody. Their lawyers claimed positive developments in the case, saying “everyone will take advantage of the deal.”
In remarks on Monday to News Corp Australia, Whittington said he has receipts for A$115,000 paid directly by the Nine Network to fund the operation.
According to Steinfort, in dropping charges against the 60 Minutes crew, El-Amine told Judge Rami Abdullah the reporters were ‘just doing their job’, and later joked to Steinfort about his relationship with Channel Nine.

Every guy turns up with a sore penis at least now and then. With any luck, the soreness is the result of a major score, and not because he’s come down with a rash or infection. But whether the cause is too much sex or a more complex penis health concern, a sore member is one that needs to be pampered. And proper clothing is an important part of that essential penis care.
The eternal question.
With a pained penis, the eternal question boxer or briefs takes on much greater significance. It also is a question that needs to be expanded: cotton boxers or knit boxers or boxer briefs or briefs or thongs or jocks or commando?
The answer to that question depends both upon the individual and on the manner in which his equipment is aching, as well as to his member’s specific degree of sensitivity. For the most part, that last-named underwear option – going commando, or without any under gear at all is not advisable unless the man is a nudist. Briefs are the underwear of choice for many men with sore members because of the support that they provide and the fact that they keep the penis in a relatively stable position. Some men believe that a jockstrap does an even better job of this, and the cotton mesh fabric also allows for a little fresh air, which can be a help with soreness.
Boxers are a good choice when the soreness of the member requires the ability to hang free, rather than be enclosed in a tight space such as that provided by briefs or jocks. Often, the real issue with the boxers is whether a light traditional cotton boxer is preferable to a knit boxer. The knit tends to offer a bit more weight and so may be less likely to irritate than the light brushings of a traditional boxer.
Material is really key.
Underwear made of 100% cotton will “breathe” better, which is usually helpful when the tool is sore. Some men, however, will find a touch of silk really pampers his penis in a way that can’t be beat; in these cases, a silken pouch may be the right alternative while a member is healing.
Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester or rayon, don’t breathe the way that cotton does, and while they have a slick feel, they do not actually soothe the skin as silk does. For these reasons, they should be avoided as underwear fabric choices; and, of course, rubber is out altogether.
Use gentle detergents.
It’s always a good idea to use gentle laundry detergents on underwear and pants, but this is especially true when waiting for a sore piece of equipment to get back in shape. Penis skin, being so thin, is especially susceptible to harsh chemicals.
Each case is different, but basically a man wants to pamper his sore penis with underwear that is soft and gentle, gives the right amount of support and is as free of chemicals as possible.
